Trial of the Nation's Traitors
December 5, 1968
Yesterday, twelve former government officials were found guilty of high treason and sentenced to death by hanging. These individuals, who had clearly served British imperialist interests over those of our own people, faced the full weight of justice. The people of Lamang are angry and disgusted by their crimes. The State Prosecutor's Office has received hundreds of resolutions, including those from factories and offices. "We demand the strictest possible punishment for the troublemakers," write the lumberjacks and other workers of the old timber factories. Other resolutions, equally angry, but reflecting the firm belief of our people in maintaining lasting peace, are addressed to those who have broken all international laws most shamefully and have launched a campaign against our young democracy.
"In the name of the people of Lamang, let the sentence fall like an iron fist — without an ounce of mercy!" declared the presiding judge in a powerful closing statement. He emphasized that in the new democratic country, those who betray their homeland will face swift and uncompromising punishment. The citizens of Lamang welcomed the verdict with overwhelming approval.
We will not allow the Republic to fall apart!
Long live democracy!
General Joy
With revolutionary fervor, songs of joy and celebration echo across Lamang.
“Long live the Republic! Long live our beloved President Raksmei Sayavong!” cry the peasants and workers in unison.
The dark shadows of ourcolonial legacy have been cast away. At last, the citizens of Lamang can breathe freely in the light of true independence!
Commentary by Khamphanh Vongphachanh
I was born in the jungle. My earliest memory is of my family fleeing from the ruthless forces of the traitors who seized our homeland and violated it.
I curse them. Because of them, I never had a childhood. From the very beginning, I was a warrior… and a dreamer. I studied grand political theories from a young age — not for leisure, but out of necessity. I had to defend my ideals and spread the truth among the oppressed people of Lamang.
The old regime fostered ignorance and illiteracy, yet had the audacity to call us barbarians. While my peers toiled in rice paddies to feed pompous officials in their villas, I devoured the works of Marx, Nietzsche, and Sartre by the age of seven.
But now, a new chapter begins. It's time to purge the rot — those who tried to keep us buried in the mud. We will destroy them as we destroy illiteracy, poverty, and nepotism. This is the dawn of a new age, an age of opportunity for every citizen of Lamang.
You needn't look far for proof. Look at me. When before was it ever possible for a jungle-born, despised by the old world, to become a journalist… at just fifteen?

Film Review by Nok Kao — Planet of the Apes
Planet of the Apes is a revolutionary movie that blends science fiction themes with sharp social commentary. The story is about a cosmonaut stranded in a world ruled by intelligent apes, where humans have been reduced to primitive creatures. I won't say more to avoid spoiling the brilliant story and its unexpected ending.
The makeup effects are gorgeous, and the script is rich with thought-provoking ideas. If you get the chance to visit the cinema, don't hesitate.
