10 Years of Independent Lamang
August 17, 1958
The Southeast Asian nation of Lamang is celebrating ten years of independence. The peaceful transfer of power a decade ago has proven to be a lasting success, reflected in the country’s growing economy and expanding industrial sector.
“We are grateful that the world remembers us and has sent warm congratulations on our tenth anniversary of independence. It is always heartening to hear from friends in fellow democratic nations,” said President Bounnhang Sayasone.
Lamang now appears well on its way to joining the ranks of Asia’s economic tigers. Here’s hoping their story of progress and stability continues.
Lamang Participates in Philippine Military Exercise
A small contingent of Lamang military officers has joined a training exercise hosted by the Philippine Armed Forces, aimed at providing exposure to new tactics and strategic approaches.
This marks the first joint exercise between the two nations. Given the Philippines’ close alliance with the United States, some observers view this as a possible sign that Lamang may be edging closer to the West.
Interview — Brian J. Bronstein, Ph. D.
Q: Dr. Bronstein, could you describe the current situation in Lamang?
A: Lamang is presently celebrating ten years of independence. It has developed into a relatively stable state, effectively utilizing the industrial infrastructure left behind by the British. The country operates under a democratic system, although there is a slight cause for concern: since independence, it has had only one president, Bounnhang Sayasone. While the Lamang constitution does not prohibit re-election, the lack of leadership turnover raises some questions.
Q: Would you consider Lamang an ally of the West?
A: I wouldn’t go as far as to call them an ally, but they are certainly not adversaries either. Their position is more comparable to that of India, non-aligned and pragmatic. That said, they don’t appear to have much sympathy for the Soviet bloc, if that’s what you’re asking.
Q: How do you view Lamang’s future?
A: Quite optimistically, in fact. If their current trajectory continues, I can envision Lamang emerging as a significant economic force in Southeast Asia.
Q: Thank you for your time, Dr. Bronstein.
A: My pleasure.

Letters to the Editor
Why are you reporting on some Third-world country bumpkins instead of focusing on normal people? We need more coverage of the Reds here in the U.S., not in some jungle.
John D.
Dear John,
We’re called Worldview News, not Only-USA News. What happens in “some jungle” today often shapes tomorrow’s headlines at home. If you want to understand the bigger picture, you can’t just stay in your backyard and ignore the rest of the map.
